Kiyan, now a 5 year old male Dogo Argentino that weighs over 100lbs, came to us years ago, and was adopted to a wonderful dad that unfortunately passed away last year. We then got him into a great foster home that fell in love and wanted to adopt him, but have recently come to the conclusion that they do not have the experience or capability to give him the proper leadership and environment he needs to thrive. We are now looking again for the perfect family for big Ky – Breed experience is a MUST.
His foster mom says this about him: Hello! My name is Kiyan, aka Kyzenstein, aka Kyder Man (because sometimes I pee in the weirdest acrobatic-esque positions), aka Ky Guy, aka Cryin’ Kiyan (because I’m quite vocal and will whine if I want a bite of whatever you’re eating), but most often just Ky.
I am a big, cuddly goofball with moderate-high energy levels. My breed was created for hunting, so I LOVE the outdoors, especially the wilderness. I love playing tug of war and am very good at fetch! I am also very adaptive, so although I need lots of exercise and mental stimulation, I am the bestest cuddle buddy and know when it’s time to relax and have some down time.
I love meeting new people and will give kisses to any face that’s near. I also love other doggy friends but am still working on managing my excitement levels and can come on too strong, but with proper introductions and a confident handler I do very well.
Although I am a big, strong boy, I am an amazing walker that listens to and obeys instructions very easily, like constantly heeling and sitting and waiting at curbs. I may pull if I see another dog, animal, or someone that looks interesting, but can be easily directed away with commands and treats.
I love to be around my people always, so I’d do best in a home where someone is around for most of the day. But, if I do have to be left alone I am not destructive whatsoever, I am very well potty trained and don’t have accidents, and am quiet, I do not bark at every little sound or person/thing walking by. I may growl to notify my family that someone is near the property, but I use my barks sparingly.
I am a very smart boy, VERY treat motivated and easy to teach new tricks. I already know sit, stay, come, heel, lie down, leave it, shake a paw, turn around, and bedtime.
I would do best with an active family where I’m not on my own for too long, with experience with big dogs, strong leadership skills, and will be very consistent with boundaries, discipline and training. Sometimes I’m a klutz and not aware of my size, so no small kids in the home. Ideally I would be the only dog in the home, but I might be okay with another small, calm dog in the home. My current family is more than willing to do multiple meets with potential adopters to find me the perfect companions.
As with all our dogs, he is neutered and up to date on all shots and vaccines. If you think Ky is the addition that is missing to your home, please fill out an application under the Foster/Adopt tab, or if you have previously applied to our rescue, email us at firstname.lastname@example.org
